Silvius Leopold Weiss (1687-1750) is German lute composer of the eighteen century. As he originaly composed for the lute, it is an enormous challenge to transcript his manuscripts for the guitar. Some guitarists like Roberto Aussel manage to play Weiss in a very convincing manner on their six string guitar. But this is a tour de force that I cannot manage to execute. And the partitions that can be found for the guitar are most of the time dull. So after quite a long effort to render out the mood of the suite L'infidèle, I decided to ask Joel Laplane, the guitar maker that originaly built my guitar, to add a seventh string to it.

I made a long effort of adaptation for the fugue in d minor. Here is the transcription I got in pdf format. I am sure that purists would object to the way I made the transcription. But try it and tell me what you think. I used the original version of the London manuscript in  the transcription in modern notation made by Ruggero Chiesa, after the original manuscript of the British Museum, published by Edizioni Suvini Zerboni, Milan. I had of course to change a lot of things, because this edition is simply the original 13 string lute manuscript reproduced in modern notations. But it was certainly a better start than the present guitar transcriptions.
